~Balance~

In Graphic Design, or AGED 4243, we are currently exploring different principles of design. One of those basic principles is balance. According to class lecture, balance can be described as the "arrangement of the objects in a given design as it relates to their visual weight within a composition." In the case of this photo, the lecture notes explain approximate symmetry as what occurs "when symmetry occurs with similar, but not identical, forms." This Coca-Cola ad is a good example of approximate symmetry because although the pictures are all relatively the same, their different shapes spice up the page and allow the reader's eyes to follow the shapes of the photos diagonally up and down the page.
