~The Fayetteville Tundra~

This is an image I shot with my phone last week during the epic blizzard we experienced. This morning, however, the parking lot got me back. I was walking across the deck and my entire body suddenly formed a serious relationship with the ice on the ground. Mind you, it hurt my pride worse than my behind. However, I feel that it made the day of the drivers of the entire line of cars waiting to park (now my "adoring" fans) that witnessed my performance.

~Simplicity~

I took this jpeg image with my iPhone on one of my many agricultural adventures last year. The coloring isn't the best, but I believe this is a really good example of simplicity. The shot brings the rice into focus and the blurred jeans to the top left make this feel even more rich with an agricultural story. This was shot at a rice and soybean farm that I visited outside of Searcy, and the simplicity of that day really makes the photo mean a lot to me.

~Interesting Angle~

I can't imagine being the person who took this shot! I really enjoy the angle this photo was shot in because it depicts a whale in a way we don't normally see. This jpeg image makes me feel very small, and very glad that I don't live in the ocean! I would like to see this photo in color as well, however, because I believe seeing the blue of the ocean would be beautiful.

~Framing~

This jpeg image is an example of shooting with an interesting angle and framing. I really enjoy the natural framing of the alley and how it brings the focus of the shot onto the bride. I do wish there was less showing above the bride so she would be even more prominent. However, being able to see the small detail of her shoes makes this a nice photo in my opinion.

~Balance~

In Graphic Design, or AGED 4243, we are currently exploring different principles of design. One of those basic principles is balance. According to class lecture, balance can be described as the "arrangement of the objects in a given design as it relates to their visual weight within a composition." In the case of this photo, the lecture notes explain approximate symmetry as what occurs "when symmetry occurs with similar, but not identical, forms." This Coca-Cola ad is a good example of approximate symmetry because although the pictures are all relatively the same, their different shapes spice up the page and allow the reader's eyes to follow the shapes of the photos diagonally up and down the page.

~Dominance~

The concept of Dominance in graphic design "relates to varying degrees of emphasis in design. It determines the visual weight of a composition, establishes space and perspective, and often resolves where the eye goes first when looking at a design," according to our Intro lecture of AGED 4243. In this photo, the object given the most emphasis is Lady Gaga. The direction her face is pointing directs the viewer's eyes to the sub-dominant element of her printed name on the left side of the graphic. I believe this is a good example of dominance because the dominant and sub-dominant elements are easily identified.

~Continuance~

According to our introduction lecture of AGED 4243, we learned that "continuance is the idea that once you begin looking in one direction, you will continue to do so until something more significant catches your attention." I believe that this Coca-Cola ad is a perfect example of continuance in graphic design. One's eyes are drawn from the large coke bottle in the beginning back to the smaller bottles in the bottom left of the photo. I also believe that it's ironic the company used the logo "Continuous Quality is Quality You Trust." Thank you, Coca-Cola graphic designer, for your continuance pun. We salute you.
